Chat with a police officer or gendarme, 24/7 (Ma Sécurité)
What is this for
The official Ma Sécurité website, run by the Ministry of the Interior, lets you chat in writing with a police officer or gendarme, at any time and for free. It is useful to ask a question, report something or get guidance when there is no immediate danger. A special chat exists for sexual, sexist and domestic violence.
Important points
- Warning: The chat is not an emergency number. In immediate danger, call 17 or 112.
- Note: On Ma Sécurité you can also file a complaint online, but only for theft, damage or an offline scam when you do not know who did it.
Steps to follow
Step 1: In danger right now? Call 17 or 112
The chat does not replace emergency services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 17 or 112. If you cannot speak or hear, use 114.
Step 2: Open the Ma Sécurité website or app
Go to masecurite.interieur.gouv.fr or download the app (App Store, Google Play). The website is available in French and English.
Step 3: Start the chat and enter your town
Click the chat button. You will be asked for a town or postcode, so you are connected with the right service.
Step 4: Victim or witness of sexual or domestic violence: use the dedicated chat
A specially trained police officer or gendarme answers you. If you are ready, they refer you to a police or gendarmerie station that contacts you to take your complaint. Victims, witnesses, minors and adults can use it.
Step 5: Leave quickly if needed
On the violence chat, a banner lets you log out immediately. According to the website, the history is erased when you leave and no trace of the connection remains on the device.
